Edison Local Schools are committed to protecting student data privacy and are fully compliant with Senate Bill 29. This legislation governs the collection, use, and protection of educational records by technology providers. It ensures that student data is secure and used solely for educational purposes. For more information, please contact us at the Board of Education, 419-499-3000.

Disclosure of Providers: Upon request, The Edison Local School District must inform parents about which external providers or vendors they are contracting with. This might include companies that provide educational software, data analytics services, or other technology. By doing this, parents can be aware of who is involved in their child's education and understand the role these providers play.

Handling of Records: If a contract with a provider ends, the provider is responsible for either returning any records they've collected about students back to the school district or destroying those records. This ensures that student data is managed appropriately and does not remain with third parties longer than necessary.

Notification of Technology Use: Upon request, Edison Local School District must notify parents about the specific hardware and software that will be used in the educational environment. This allows parents to be aware of, and possibly review the tools and technologies their children will be exposed to.

Recently passed legislation requires school districts to provide annual notice to parents in any school year when it will generally monitor school-issued devices. School-issued devices include hardware, software, devices, and accounts that the school district, acting independently or with a technology provider, provides to an individual student for the student's dedicated personal use. The Edison Local School District will either directly or through a technology provider, monitor electronic data on school-issued devices during this school year for the circumstances listed in Section 3319.327(B) of the Ohio Revised Code, as is standard practice at school districts across the state.
